Chai Spiced Popcorn (sugar free)

chai_popcornI am an avid snacker and instead of fighting it I listen to my body and embrace it. As long snacks are made up of whole, healthy foods I’m all for them. Popcorn is a super satisfying snack and it has always been a personal favorite, it’s whole grain, easy, and so crunchy delicious. My favorite way to enjoy popcorn is drenched in maple syrup and sprinkled with salt- not exactly great for candida elimination! So to satisfy my sweet popcorn craving I came up with this recipe for chai spiced popcorn that uses vanilla stevia and exotic chai spices. It’s the perfect blend of slightly sweet, salty and spicy (not hot, but flavourful) and totally screams fall!

Now, some anti-candida diets are pro-corn, some forbid it, some allow it in moderation. Some say it is too high in carbohydrates to consume, while others praise its fiber content. I have found I am able to tolerate popcorn except when I am dealing with serious bowel healing from leaky gut syndrome and can’t eat anything rough or crunchy. So depending on your exact ACD or where you are in your journey this may be a recipe better enjoyed once you’re maintaining your anti-candida lifestyle and not necessarily during the elimination phase.

One thing I should mention is the amount of cinnamon. I use the full 4 teaspoons but you may find that’s a little strong for you. I really love cinnamon and I always double, or triple, what is called for in a recipe. So start with a little and taste, taste, taste!

If you can’t get your hands on NuNaturals vanilla stevia try vanilla extract with plain liquid stevia, it should be just yummy. I hope you enjoy this snack as much as we did!

Chai Spiced Popcorn (sugar free)


1/2 cup popcorn kernels

4 tsp cinnamon

1 tsp cardamom

1/2 tsp allspice

1/8-1/4 tsp ginger

1/8 tsp white or black pepper

1/4 cup coconut oil, melted

25 drops NuNaturals Vanilla Stevia, or to taste



  1. Pop corn using chosen method, I like to air pop.
  2. Place melted coconut oil, spices and stevia in a jar and shake until combined, or whisk in a bowl.
  3. Drizzle over freshly popped popcorn, toss to coat and salt to taste.
  4. Enjoy!
